A global university

With over 750 partnerships in 70 countries, the University of Strasbourg's global outlook sets it apart. It is home to the Maison universitaire France-Japon, a unique establishment in France that reflects strong partnerships with Japanese universities. Supported by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, it helps strengthen cooperation between France and Japan in higher education and research.

The University of Strasbourg is promoting a transition from bilateral partnerships to cooperation within international networks. It is a member of several international university alliances and networks, such as the League of European Research Universities (LERU), the European University Association (EUA) and the Utrecht Network. These networks promote mobility between institutions, facilitate the sharing of knowledge and good practices, and support the internationalisation of teaching and research.

The university also coordonates the Academic Network on Inclusiveness, Multilingualism and Excellence (ANIME), which brings together 12 higher education institutions from central and eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. One of its objectives is to help members jointly respond to calls for projects under international programmes.

International academic programmes

In collaboration with its partners, the University of Strasbourg offers over 120 international programmes, which allow students and PhD students to earn a double or even triple degree.

The university also offers more than 30 courses abroad at numerous partner institutions. Students study in their country of residence, where teaching is provided jointly by University of Strasbourg staff and local teams.

The university actively works to make its academic programmes more international. Its International Cooperation Department (Pôle coopération internationale PCI) and Research Project Development Department (Pôle unique d'ingénierie PUI) provide support and advice to project leaders across faculties during each stage of a cooperation project, from application and assessment to negotiation, contracting, approval, implementation and final reporting.

The University of Strasbourg is strengthening its international partnerships through Erasmus+ projects supported by external policy funds. These projects facilitate exchanges between higher education institutions in Erasmus+ programme countries and in selected non-programme countries, such as Morocco, South Africa and Ukraine.

International research

The University of Strasbourg was the first university to initiate a partnership with the National Centre for Scientific Research (Centre national de la recherche scientifique – CNRS) to support its initiatives for internationalising research, including International Research Projects (IRP) and the International Research Networks (IRN).

The university's laboratories participate in IRPs and work with international partner laboratories. A network of international relations officers for research supports and encourages these partnerships. The university's Research Project Development Department also supports project leads in securing regional, national, European and international funding.
